Chengmai
Chengmai County is located in the northwest of Hainan Island, adjacent to Haikou, the provincial capital. It has been over 2000 years since it was established as county in the Western Han Dynasty (110 BC). Chengmai was one of the three historic cities of Hainan in the Western Han Dynasty. It has attracted much attention with its ecological environment, natural landscape, warm climate, selenium-rich food, historical and cultural landscape, ancient volcanic rock villages, rapid social and economic development.
Chengmai has long enjoyed the reputation of beautiful scenery and longevity. It is Hainan’s first and China’s tenth “Home of Longevity in China” and the first “World’s Longevity County” certified by the United Nations. Reputed as world’s selenium-rich land, the soil in Chengmai is rich in calcium, magnesium, selenium and other beneficial elements. Chengmai is also a famous green county in China, with 53% of the land (16.7 hectares) covered by forest.
Chengmai is not only rich in historical sites, such as the Meilang Twin Towers, Yongqing Temple, Jinshan Temple, Xinwulao Road, Dacheng Temple, Guangde Bridge, Luoyi Village and Fengpingjun Pavilion, but also in beautiful scenery, e.g., Jialongping Tropical Monsoon Rainforest Eco-tourism Area, Guilin Eco-tourism Resort, and modern leisure facilities, such as Jinjiang entertainment capital, Fushan coffee culture-style town, Taiwan-style town, European culture-style town, Mediterranean-style town, and Jiulegong Hot Spring Resort.
